Low-Carbon Steelmaking Drives Demand for Low-Consumption UHP Graphite Electrodes

In late July 2026, the China Carbon Industry Chain Technology Innovation Summit was held in Gansu, bringing together carbon industry experts, manufacturers and steel mill procurement professionals to discuss low-carbon steelmaking, electrode quality improvement and global supply chain stability. As electric arc furnace steelmaking continues to expand worldwide, stable supply of high-quality UHP graphite electrodes has become an important factor for steel mills to control smelting costs and maintain continuous production.

EAF steelmaking growth is increasing demand for high-end graphite electrodes. Global steel mills are paying closer attention to large-diameter, high-power and low-consumption graphite electrodes. In some overseas markets, needle coke costs, energy prices, ocean freight cycles and lower capacity utilization have added pressure to electrode supply and delivery schedules. Against this background, Chinese graphite electrode suppliers with integrated production chains and scalable manufacturing capacity are gaining more attention from overseas EAF steelmakers.

Low resistivity, low electrode consumption and thermal shock resistance are key selection factors.
